Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026
We never collect payment or card information. The service is free, has no accounts and processes no payments. See Charges and billing in our Terms if a bank statement brought you here.
This policy explains what happens to the documents you upload to aipdfreader.net, what other information we collect, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Documents you upload
When you upload a file, its content is sent to our processing servers and to the third-party AI providers we use to generate the summary, the translation and the chat answers. Uploaded content is processed only to produce the output you requested and to answer the follow-up questions you ask about it.
We do not keep your uploaded file. Once the text has been extracted and the summary produced, the file itself is discarded and is not archived, backed up or stored for later use. We do not sell uploaded content, publish it, share it with anyone beyond the processors listed below, or use it to train AI models or to advertise to you.
The extracted text is held only for as long as your chat session is active, because answering a follow-up question requires the document it refers to. When the session ends the text is discarded.
Please do not upload documents containing sensitive personal data — medical records, government identification, financial account details or anything covered by a confidentiality obligation. This is a general-purpose reading tool and is not intended for that kind of material.
Information we collect
- A random identifier. When you first use the tool, your browser generates a random identifier and stores it in local storage under the key
ai-pdf-reader-user-id. It is sent with your requests so that a summary can be matched to your chat session. It is not linked to your name, email address or any account, because the service has no accounts. - File name and file content for the documents you upload.
- Your chat messages, which are also kept in your browser's local storage so that a conversation survives a page reload.
- Your interface language choice, stored in local storage so the site opens in the same language next time.
- A local copy of your document in your browser's IndexedDB storage, used to show the document preview alongside the summary. This copy never leaves your device and is cleared with your browser data.
- Standard technical data that any web server receives, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your request.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The items described above are stored locally in your own browser, not on our servers. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings; the tool will simply generate a new identifier the next time you use it.
We do not ask you to register, and we do not process payment information — the tool is free and has no paid plan.
Who else processes your data
We share data only with the providers we need in order to run the service: the hosting and content-delivery provider that serves this website, and the AI providers that generate summaries, translations and chat responses. These providers act on our instructions.
None of them is permitted to use your content for its own purposes, and none is permitted to use it to train models. They may process it only to return the output we asked for on your behalf.
Some of them are based outside the European Economic Area, so your data may be processed there. We select providers that offer a recognised safeguard for such transfers, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or certification under an approved adequacy framework. If you want to know which providers are involved in processing a specific request, write to us at the address below and we will name them.
How long we keep information
We keep each kind of information for no longer than the period below.
- Your uploaded file. Not retained. It is discarded once the text has been extracted.
- The extracted text of your document. For the duration of your chat session, and in no case longer than 24 hours.
- Your chat messages. For the duration of the session on our side. The copy in your browser's local storage stays until you clear it.
- The random identifier, your language choice and the local copy of your document. These live in your own browser, not on our servers, and remain until you clear your browser data.
- Server logs containing technical data such as IP address: no longer than 30 days, after which they are deleted.
Why we are allowed to process this
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases. Processing the document you upload rests on the performance of a contract under Article 6(1)(b): you asked for a summary, and producing it is the service you came for. Processing technical data such as server logs rests on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) in keeping the service available and secure. We do not rely on consent, because we run no advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not process special categories of data — which is why we ask you not to upload documents that contain them.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to its use. You can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
Because the service has no accounts, we usually cannot connect a request to a specific person on our own. To help us locate your data, include the random identifier from your browser's local storage in your request.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has uploaded personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top of the page always shows when it was last revised.
